It's been an uneventful eventful week! =) I feel like we've done nothing and yet looking back on this week's pictures I realized that we did have some moments to share. I haven't posted lately mostly because we're such a sharing family that we seem to pass our germies back and forth and back again. Such is winter with kids!
So, here are a few pictures of our week:

God is good!

A few things have happened lately and I'm feeling somewhat overwhelmed at how good God is!
Today on our way home from MOPS we were in a minor accident. (The only "damage" was to our license plate so that's how minor it was!) I was really shaken. It was the first time something has happened while I've had the boys with me and it made me feel super nervous, but God is good! When I got back into the car I asked Sammy if he was ok and he said yes. Then he asked me "Are you okay, Mommy?" I told him I was and the rest of the way home Sammy kept saying "Mommy, are we ok? Are they ok? Are the cars ok? Are the houses ok? Are the trees ok?" It was funny, but it just shows how incredibly sensitive he is. He is always so concered for other people...and things! He then said to me, "Mommy, Jesus loves us?" and I, of course, said "YES!!! Jesus does love us!!"
The other thing that has made me reflect on God's goodness is a VERY different situation. My mom was supposed to donate a kidney to a good friend of ours. We're 2 weeks away from the surgery date and my mom's surgeon made the difficult decision to not go through with the transplant. My mom has some funky kidneys =) Apparently one of her kidneys (the one to be donated) has 2 working filters instead of one so taking it would essentialy leave her with 1/3 of her current kidney function which is just too risky. Anyway, it's such a difficult thing. She went through months of testing and the surgery date was so close. And, more importantly, our friend now has to wait until another kidney becomes available. So, why do I say that it's a reason for me to see God's goodness? Because I believe that God is good ALL the time. It's hard and it's certainly not what we were hoping or praying for, but ultimately God knows what He's doing. He's not been caught off guard. My mom put it well. She said, "you know, God has known that this would happen before we were ever born. It just took us until now to find it out."
God IS good! He sometimes does things that scream to us how good He is. Other times He does things that, in our minds, are confusing and leave us with nothing else, but to trust Him and learn that He continues to scream of His goodness, we're just too blind to always see it that way.
Our family certainly has seen God's provision and protection in the past and we would be so foolish not to trust that He is working and doing what's best in this situation as well! I fear when this poor little guy grows up he'll look back and wish I had taken more pictures of just him. It seems like his big brother is in everyone! So I decided to make a little montage (you have to click on the pix for it to open - my brain is sluggish today and I can't remember how to post it in here!) of just him (since Sammy already has several!) and it made me feel so much better that I DO have pictures of just my little guy!

So seriously, this kid's diet generally consists of 90% fruit and veggies, 8% meat and 2% junk food so I don't feel bad when every now and then he splurges!! (in case you can't see in the picture he's eating ice cream...and no, I won't let him eat the whole thing!!!)

Happy Valentines Day

I must admit. I've never been a huge Valentine's Day person. Of course I love getting flowers or just a sweet card from my husband just like the next girl, but we just don't go crazy. I do put up decorations and get something for my husband, but don't like the idea that everything is twice as expensive for this one day and everyone feels like they have to buy something. I guess I just wish it were more of a "show your love" day and not a "spend all your had earned money" day. All I'm saying is I'd rather a nice card and a load of laundary done for me than $40 roses! ;)

I'm a lonely valentine this year. My valentine is in Chile for the whole week. He comes home on Sunday. We're doing well, but we miss him terribly!

Anyway, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Now go do something nice for your valentine!!!

A friend of mine's blog is called "Musings from the Minivan" I love that! We do seem to get some GREAT conversations in our minivan!! I was thinking during this one that I'd love to install a dashcam or at least a tape recorder!

[Let me give a little background for this one:

Sammy has claimed our front porch. He calls it his porch! (Daddy always asks him how much he's paid for it and he says he doesn't have any money so we insist it ISN'T his, but whatever!) It's an enclosed porch and has become his toy room. Some days it tends to be more like a mine field when people try and walk into the house and I occasionally have to clear a path just to get to the door, but we generally use the back door so "live it up, Sammy. We'll clean up after your (our) nap!"]

In the car today Sammy said to me, "Mommy, I don't have a kitchen. I just have a porch. Maybe another day I can have a brand new kitchen so I can make eggs for Daddy...and you...and Caleb...and me...and ALL the people and kids. I make eggs for EVERYONE!"

Have you ever been in a packed stadium or concert and just been amazed at the number of people there and been overwhelmed at how many of them probably don't know the Lord? That happens to me all the time.

Yesterday the boys and I were driving home from visiting Daddy at his new office and Sammy said to me "Mommy, David wasn't there today" (David is Sammy's friend from church). Then he asked me if David's Daddy was working too and painting like his Daddy does (part-time job). It occured to me that he thinks David's Daddy works the same place his Daddy does. I realized that to him the world is so simple and small. He seems to think that everyone does exactly what we do and goes to the same places we do, etc. I've prayed since the boys were born that one day they will come to know and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and that they would love and serve Him. As we drove and I thought about his perspective on the world and saw all of the cars and people that we were passing us another prayer came to my heart. I began to pray that God would give them a PASSION for the lost and that our lives, as their parents, would show them the need to reach others for Christ's kingdom.

Ok....if you hear something about them having to do a recount in Jersey...you can blame me!! I just want to put that out there now! Actually I think the sweet volunteer Senior Citizens had something to do with it. God bless them, but they didn't know what they were doing! After I registered the lady told me to go over and vote so being the rule follower that I am (not really!) I walked over to the booth, went in and voted (or so I thought!) Then they told me that the lady hadn't turned that one on so my vote wasn't actually recorded so I had to do it again. So the guy that I voted for (yes, now you know if was a man!!) may have an extra vote! Not that it matters anyway because you KNOW I didn't vote for the person that won in Jersey anyway! Now I have to add here that I realize that just because I vote for someone doesn't mean that they'll win, but seriously, what is wrong with the voters in this state?! I'm conviced that they're either all a little screwy or the intelligent ones are too lazy to go vote!

The only thing that was good about the whole experience was that I took Sammy with me. Being the good mother and citizen that I am, I want him to learn that we vote and take part in our country and it's decisions. Sounds really great right? Not really because it was completely lost on my almost 3 year old! In the car he said to me "Where are we going, Mommy?" to which I replied with much pride "We're going for Mommy to vote". and my son said "I want to ride in the boat too!" Trying not to giggle I said "Not a boat, honey. Vote" Then I had to think how to explain this one! "umm, it's to tell them who I want to be President" to which Sammy replied "I want to open a present too!"

Never mind! Just take a ride with me and we'll go to Wawa (one of his favorite places) when we're done!

My Pop-pop used to always say "old people are funny!" I completely agree, Pops, but I think toddlers are pretty funny too!

They say life is full of choices...the life of a mother is no exception!

Let me share some of the choices I make on a (nearly) daily basis.
The first one starts from the moment I wake up to "I want Mommy!" A choice lies before me. Do I roll out of bed and go get my boys up and thus begin a day of many other (harder) choices or do I roll over and pretend to not have heard and let them wait another 10...or 45 minutes (just kidding - I never wait that long... and truth be told it's not so bad since my 2 lazy bones wake at 8am!)
Another choice is wether to change my name when I hear "Mommy???" for the ten thousandth time in one day (mind you 90% of the time nothing follows, it's just a nasty habit that my dear son has picked up calling for mommy for no apparent reason!) or to politely and gently respond to him to show him the love that I want him to show to others.
When I hear insane things coming out of my own mouth I stand at a crossroad. A choice, once again, lies before me. It goes something like this: "Don't sit on your brother!" or "Bellybuttons
are NOT for storing Cheerios!" or "Take that french fry out! We don't put food in our noses!" or "Don't you ever put a puzzle piece in the subwoofer again!" **Yikes! Never thought things like that would ever have to be spoken!** This is perhaps the biggest choice that a Mom (probably just a mom of boys, but I can't confirm this because I only HAVE boys) has. To scream and run and hide because "I'm turning into a scary parent" or to realize that one day when my kids are grown I'll look back on these days (that is as long as they live to be grown and not institutionalized because of their crazy mother!) and wish to have them back in my arms for some cuddles and kisses and hear them say "I love you OH SO MUCH, Mommy!"

Praise You in this storm

Something that has consumed a great bit of my time this past week is praying for a very special family. While I don't know them personally I have found myself thinking of them hundreds of times each day, praying for them almost as often and checking their blog for updates constantly! (I think if you were to come over you'd see that my house is looking somewhat "forgotten" because of it!) Their names are Nathan, Tricia and Gwyneth Lawrenson and while I'm not sure how well I can tell the story it has touched me nonetheless and so I'll try.... Tricia has Cystic Fibrosis and was waiting for a double lung transplant when they found out they were expecting a baby. Sweet little Gwyneth Rose was born last Tuesday at 1lb 6oz. While Tricia remains somewhat asleep (they've been reducing the sedatives so she is slowly waking) Gwyneth is in the NICU and is a precious little miracle! I went to high school with Tricia's sister, Megan (we played softball together) and her sister, Janet was my PE teacher (so much fun!!!) I vaguelly remember Tricia, but I'm sure she wouldn't know me from Eve. Still I see how this family is living out their faith in such a real way and have been impacting countless thousands of people worldwide with their testimony of hope and peace because of their relationships with Jesus Christ! My eyes are getting all watery and fogged over as I write this (just as they do with every post of Nathan's that I read!) I'm just amazed at how our awesome God is working in such a real way during such a difficult time. In one of Nathan's posts he says that this isn't a sad time for him. While I'm sure they wouldn't have chosen this situation for themselves had they been given the choice they sure are walking living testiments to lives that are completely surrendered to God no matter what life brings. How I hope and pray that I could do the same if I were to be in their shoes! We're back

We're home from Disney and finally getting settled. The boys are just about back to their normal schedules and the laundry is finally under control!!! =)
We had such a great time! Sammy LOVED seeing all of the characters! By the second one he knew the deal. He'd ask for his autograph book and pen to take to them. He'd hand them the book and pen, give them hugs and then turn and pose for a picture. It was really cute! He was pretty serious for several days when we'd take his picture so we finally told him he needed to smile really big and after that all of the pictures have him with a cheesey grin!
Caleb did great too. I was feeling bad that Sammy was in all of the pictures and Caleb was just in the stroller most of the time so I would snap a few of him in his stroller every now and then. Poor kid! He really just got little stroller cat naps all day so he seems to be doing really well at home again with long naps!
We left of Saturday morning at 4am and got to Savannah, GA at 5pm. We spent the night there and did a little sight seeing Sunday morning. I really wanted to eat lunch at Paula Dean's restaurant, but we got there at 10am and would have had to wait until 3pm to get in! The line was unbelievable!!! We drove about 4 more hours Sunday and got to Orlando by dinner time.
We spent 2 days at Magic Kingdom and Epcot and one day each at Animal Kingdom and MGM. It was so much fun! We were so impressed with the whole experience! Which was obvious by the number of pictures we took...617!!! Absurd! But we're glad we did!

DISNEY!!!!!

We are so excited to be going to Disney!! We leave at 4am tomorrow! I'm very nervous about the sleeping in the car thing, but we'll live! We will be driving to Savannah and plan to arrive there around dinner time. We'll spend the night and then go to Paula Dean's restaurant for lunch on Sunday!!!!! Yay!! I am so excited about that! Then we'll drive to Orlando and plan to get there around dinner time Sunday. All of this, of course, depends on the boys and how many stops we have to make. We're hoping to plan our stops around Caleb's schedule as much as possible so I can feed him, Sammy can run around a bit, we can gas up and use the bathroom. Pray that this works so we can make it as quick a trip as possible for all of our sanity! We're so extremely excited to go! We always said we'd go before we had kids, but obviously that didn't happen. This will be the first for all 4 of us! Sammy doesn't quite understand how soon we're going. We keep telling him it's getting close, but I don't think he can grasp time yet! Just about every time we get into the car to go somewhere these last few weeks he asks if we're going to see Mickey Mouse! So cute! I'm hoping he doesn't figure it out when we wake him at 4am tomorrow so that he'll fall back to sleep in the car right away, but he's a smart kid!
Anyway, all of this to say that we're super excited and hope you all pray for safety and that we'll miss everyone and expect a few babies to be born while we're gone!! =)

By the way, this is the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse from the Disney channel show that Sammy loves to watch. He has this toy at home and thinks that this is where we'll be sleeping when we're there!!

Sammy's Singing Debut!

I was trying to catch a few cute pictures of the boys this morning. I seem to pull out the camera whenever they're together like this....poor Caleb, the only pictures we're going to have of the poor child is ones with both of them!

Anyway, Sammy was holding Caleb and he gently put his hand on Caleb's head and then layed his head down. I quick snapped the picture before they moved...or so I thought! Wouldn't you know Caleb spits up! And when have you ever seen spit-up caught in mid air like this?? Lunacy!

My husband thinks I'm nuts!!

So we had this pig roast at church yesterday. I was signed up to bring a dessert. It was a PIG roast...what else would I bring???

Mommy's little helper

Sammy loves to help me do laundry. It's great for me because he keeps me going all day long and we get lots done, but he doesn't understand that we have to wait for it to be done to put more in! He also drives me crazy sometimes when he "helps" fold! Oh well! It's good that he's learning to help around the house! (he also loves cleaning windows so I'll have to post a picture of that soon!)

Ok, he's still an infant, but he is now eating solid food (if you can call soggy baby cereal solid!). He had his first taste on Saturday. He seemed to really like it. Granted he only eats a Tablespoon or so, but that's not bad for just starting out!

Labor Day....From a Mom's Point of View!!

hmmmmm..........how about the working stay at home mom??!!
I remember like it was yesterday the first time I realized that moms don't get a day off. Sammy was just a few weeks old and I woke up in the morning sick as a dog. I remember thinking, "wait...I don't ever get a day off. No sick days, no personal days, nothing!" On call 24/7! That's a mommy's life. Moms know the real meaning of labor day...we do it every day! We don't even get weekends off and they created a special holiday for themselves! Silly!
Sometimes when I don't feel good or didn't sleep well because of a newborn waking during the night I'll say to my wonderful husband in the morning "I'm calling out sick today". He lovingly rolls his eyes and says "yeah! right!"
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE being a mommy. I truly never imagined that I would get married, let alone have these two beautiful boys! Growing up I always had the recurring dream that I was the single jet-setting aunt who dropped in on my sister and her beautiful home with kids running everywhere. I would give them gifts and snicker as she made them all dinner. Then I would leave and that was the end of the dream. Now I find myself doing what I never imagined, but always wanted!
There's no better job than being at home with my boys. I have no desire to ever go back to work! I love being with them!
I guess they can have their Labor Day, but I'm throwing a stink next Mother's Day if I don't at least get to take a nice nap!! =)

Soccer....

I have a love/hate relationship with soccer! I love it because it means Tote is seeing men come to the Lord when he coaches/plays with Saints and because it's a good oulet for ministering to teens when he's coaching at BHS, but I hate it because everytime he's involved in it he's away from us for too long! Sammy's at the age now where he notices that Daddy should be home, but isn't and he gets very 'daddy lonely'! I must be very selfish, but it's hard when he's working days, coaching nights and traveling on Saturdays. Throw in church and youth group and we don't see too much of each other!

What a Great Physician we have!

Just last night I was feeding Caleb and Tote was heading down to his office to get some work done. He said "I'll be right back to put him to bed". We always give kisses and put him to bed together or at least make sure he has said goodnight before I put him down. Just the way that he said that threw my mind into what this time might look like had my burns been worse than they were or had Caleb been delivered early as we feared.
For those of you who don't know, I was severely burned in April when I was 9 months pregnant with Caleb. We feared that he would come early before I had a chance to heal and that I would not be able to care for him. It was so hard and humbling to not be able to care for myself during those weeks, but by far the hardest thing that I have ever dealt with in my entire life was to not be able to care for Sammy. I wasn't able to get him up in the morning, put him to bed or naps, get his meals, change his diaper, dress him, hold him or even hug him. It tore me up inside! I can't imagine if Caleb had been born during all of that and I wasn't able to hold my baby or nurse him!
God is so good!!!! We took the last bandage off the day before Caleb arrived! He is healthy and the happiest little sweetheart!! I can nurse him and care for him and just be a mommy to him and to Sammy. I can't express how grateful I am for that blessing! I love being their mommy!!
That moment last night just made me reflect on how things could have been and how thankful we are for God's healing and provision during such a rough time!

Old friend!

I found an old friend tonight and I'm just thrilled! Heather and I were in Argentina together and had such a great friendship! She was living in New Orleans last I saw her (at her wedding) I have lost touch with her over the last few years and couldn't find any way to contact her. I was dying to know how she and her family was and have an update. It was really bothering me that I couldn't find her. Well, tonight on a whim and one of my "internet wanderings" (like I don't have other things around the house that I could be doing!) I decided to google her. I couldn't even remember her married last name, but I found her family's blog!
Excited does not describe it when I saw that link! I clicked on the page and just then Tote came home from soccer practice and I yelled "I think I found Heather!" I hadn't even looked at the page yet, but he hadn't had dinner and it was almost 8:30 so I had to go heat up his dinner. When I came back I spent almost an hour going through their old posts and found that they have three adorable little boys and are expecting baby #4. I have to say that I can't picture Heather as a mom, but am sure she is a GREAT one! She's such a gentle, sweet person!
Reading in her blog they are raising support to go to Mexico (really close to where Oscar - Tote's brother - and his wife live)
This is a long post, but it's so exciting to have found Heather again! I hope to never loose contact with her again!

Kids say the darndest things!

Sammy says the funniest things lately! I'm going to try and describe some of the scenarios and explanations here.
One day he and I were driving home from church late on Wed night. I was beyond anxious to get him home and in bed (because I know what it's like with him the next day when he gets to bed late!) I was getting what some would describe as "very frustrated", but I would say "a little annoyed" that everyone on the road was going too slow, not using turn signals, cutting me off at ridiculously slow speeds, etc. Sammy was sitting behind me (which turned out to be a good thing) and was asking the same questions over and over and over...and over! This was adding to my frustration (yes, ok, by this point I was frustrated!) I said to him "Samuel, please!" he replied "goodness sakes, Mommy" I apparently have said that to him before and he knew what was coming next! That completely relaxed me and made me almost wet myself I was laughing so hard, but trying to hold it in and that's where it was good he was behind me so he didn't see me!
There are 2 commercials that Sammy has taken a liking to. One is of the Philadelphia Zoo and a father is talking in a british accent as if he were the lion (off camera so you just see the lion and hear the dad's voice) he says something about the baboons being in his water again and then says "get the skimma!" (skimmer) Sammy looked at me the other day out of the blue and said "Mommy, get the skimma!" I once again laughed me head off!
The other commercial is a really annoying little groundhog that advertises the lottery and at the end of each commercial he says "keep on scratching!" Sammy apparentely has seen this one too many times also and said to me one day "Mommy, keep on scratching!" I laughed so hard at this one and told several people about it and now he thinks it's just the funniest thing ever so he repeats it a lot!
He loves to play a little game with daddy at bedtime. One of them will start and say "I love you" and the other will say "I love you more" Tote will leave the room and Sammy will yell out again "I love you more!" Tote runs back in and says "I love you more" and that will go back and forth several times. It's very cute! The other day he hugged me and said "I love you, Mommy!" I said "I love you too" and he said "I love you more first!"
This is all I can think of for now. Trust me he keeps us laughing!
And as one final note to all of you.....Keep on scratching! (Just kidding! We don't endorse the lottery!!)

We're back! Quick Update

Ok...a little over a year isn't so long is it??!!
Well, now that things have somewhat settled down we hope to keep this updated more often...we shall see!
Everything is going great with us! Sammy is now almost 2 1/2 and Caleb is almost 3 months old! They are growing like weeds. Sammy is thining out and Caleb is chunking up! Sammy weighs about 30lbs and Caleb weighs 15!
